Increase in number of first time landlords

A quarterly trend study by Paragon has discovered a huge increase in first-time landlords with continual growth since the middle of 2009.

The total of buy-to-let cases reached a significant high back in the second quarter of 2002 when the buy-to-let industry underwent a massive boom in popularity. In 2008, the demand from new landlords experienced a sharp decrease, mainly due to the brutal hit of the recession.

However, rising optimism in the financial markets seems to be rubbing off on first time landlords with the latest report stating that newcomers are keeping the market strong.

This new trend could be down to several factors. Firstly, buy-to-let purchasing has become far more popular with lenders and so making it easier for investors.  Secondly, there has been a significant increase in rental yields as renting becomes more popular Thirdly, property agents are facing tough competition to provide the best return from properties.
