Redress scheme

New legislation is good news for landlords and tenants

A redress scheme, that already benefits Lemontree clients, will soon be in force across England.

New legislative changes will require all letting and property management agents to register with an approved scheme. The government has recently approved The Property Ombudsman as one of them, and Lemontree is already a member.

Lemontree director Beth Barnham said: “This is positive news for landlords and tenants of other agents, as we have already been signed up to the scheme for some time. It gives consumers the option of having any complaint independently investigated and reviewed by the Ombudsman free of charge.

“We voluntarily follow a set of standards outlined in the TPO’s Lettings Code of Practice. It will be good for our industry as a whole and I hope it will ensure fairness, integrity and best practice in the services being offered to the public.”

The new legislation, from the Department for Communities and Local Government, is expected to come into effect later this year.
