PRS carbon monoxide and smoke alarm law welcomed

The new law requiring carbon monoxide and smoke alarms to be installed in PRS properties has been welcomed.

As of October 1st, the Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (England) Regulations 2015 mean carbon dioxide detectors must be installed in any room where a solid fuel burning appliance, such as a central heating boiler or a gas fire, is present.

According to the law, landlords or their letting agents must also ensure that the alarms are maintained in good working order, meaning regular checks are undertaken and broken appliances are fixed. They are also required to install at least one smoke alarm on every storey of their rental property, therefore ensuring it will be able to notify tenants immediately of any fire risk.

Our Landlords don't need to worry as the Lemontree maintenance team consistently check all smoke detectors on a regular basis replacing a large number of them recently as they didn't meet current legislation. They are now in the process of adding a Carbon Monoxide sensors to each property.
