Remember remember your animals on the 5th November

Remember remember your animals on the 5th November

Whilst you enjoy the firework celebrations over the next few weeks, spare a thought for your animals, as they can find this time of year particularly stressful. There are a number of things that can be done to help your pets feels less traumatised. Some of these are simple and easy, while others involve a little bit of planning and preparation.

Firstly, find out when firework displays will be happening in your local area and how they might impact your home. The more informed you are, the more precautions you can take at the right times.

Encourage your animals to come inside before it gets dark and the noises start. If you have a dog, try and exercise them before daylight ends.

Close all doors and windows to help keep the noise out. Putting on familiar music in the house, such as the stereo or TV, can help muffle sounds from outside.

Close curtains where possible to help control the flashes of light, especially if they are close to the house.

Try to provide a hide-away area with soft bedding that your pet can rest in whilst the displays take place.

Keep an eye on your pet, and, if possible, stay with them.

Avoid making too much fuss over your pet and try to carry on with your evening as normal. A lot of attention in comparison to normal can make them suspect something is wrong.

We hope you enjoy safe and fun celebrations this 5th November.
